SETI , Consilience , and the Unity of Knowledge

چکیده
E. O. Wilson’s recent plea for employing consilience to achieve knowledge unification focuses on linking the biological and social sciences/humanities, yet admits to only minimal progress. If and when SETI succeeds in making contact with extraterrestrial civilizations, a comparative study of these could provide a means for overcoming current barriers to linking the natural and cultural realms, and thereby promote the unity of knowledge.
